After being a long time Volvo fan, I've got to say the XC60 was a letdown - but the XC90 is better than ever. It's a fantastic car, and doesn't cost much more than the XC60 - and comes with more options. A problem with Volvos in the past is the launch year for a new model is always the worst year... the XC90 was rubbish in 2004, but now it's been developed and turned into a fantastic car. If the XC90 is too much for your range, look at the Ford Edge or it's Mercury counterpart - those are fantastic cars.

Volvo reliability is crap. Check out the resale value of even the 2009 or 2008 models. The resale values are horrible because the cars are not what they used to be. There are a multitude of electrical and component failures that make owning the car a nightmare.
If I ever did buy another Volvo, I would NEVER keep it past the day the warranty expires. They are money traps.

Go find a Volvo specific shop in your area. If you are anywhere near Ann Arbor MI, they have Swedish Engineering that all they fix are Volvo's some BMW's, some VW etc. And ask a mechanic who works on them.. the best answer will come from the mechanic since he/she has to fix them.
